Obituary for Neville "Nev" Griffin

Neville R. Griffin
Resident of Sunnyvale

Nev Griffin, 81, passed peacefully on June 29th after a brave battle with cancer. He was born in San Francisco, a graduate of Palo Alto High School, San Jose State ( member of ATO fraternity), and lifelong resident of the Bay Area.

He had a love of adventure and while in college, earned his private pilot license, fought fires for the US National Forest Service, ski patrol at Heavenly Valley, Lake Tahoe. His biggest adventure though was meeting his beloved wife, Deanna. They married in 1960, packed up his VW Bug and drove to Del Rio, TX where he began his assignment as 2nd LT in the Air Force with the U2 mission.

Once he completed his service, he and Deanna returned to the Bay Area. He enjoyed a lifelong career in computer marketing/sales holding various senior executive corporate positions which took him throughout the world. After retiring, he spent the last 16 years as a volunteer with SCORE (Senior Corp of Retired Executives) mentoring small business entrepreneurs. Along with his love of family, friends, travel and a good book, Nev had a real love of nature, especially skiing in Tahoe. Golf was another passion, starting in high school where he caddied at Stanford Golf Course. Nev will be remembered for his big heart, kind and gentle soul and sense of humor.

Nev is survived by his wife of 57 years, Deanna, his son Bob (Sara), daughters Kim & Kristi, granddaughters Amanda, Jenna & Alexa, and nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to: Dr. Heather Wakelee Lung Cancer Research (for information on how to donate contact Kim Griffin at endlungcancer@gmail.com) and/or Cristo Rey San Jose Jesuit High School (http://www.cristoreysanjose.org).

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in memory of Nev on Friday, July 13, at 11:00 a.m., St. Williams Church, 511 El Monte Ave., Los Altos.
