Velma, or DD, as she was often called by friends and family, was a long time resident of Mountain View, California; she moved there with her husband, Alex, and sons, Don and Mike, in 1955. DD was a gifted homemaker. She was a talented seamstress and she also loved to crochet. She loved to preserve and bottle the fruit from the family’s backyard trees. She made the world’s best apricot jam. She also made the world’s best homemade bread. DD was a wonderful mother and supported her boys’ activities. She was active in the Monta Loma Elementary PTA and served as a room mother for her boys’ classrooms. She also served as a Cub Scout den mother when Don and Mike belonged to the Boy Scouts. In 1986, DD became a member of the St. Athanasius Catholic Church along with her husband Alex. Both DD and Alex became church volunteers. For many years DD was an active member of the church’s senior group and also served as a Eucharist minister. For many years DD had another volunteer job. She was a caregiver for her husband, Alex, and helped him fight his cancer bravely for many years, She also cared for her mother, Ruth, with great devotion. DD was a loving grandmother and is adored by her grandson, Brian and his wife, Courtney. She is survived by them, her sons, Don and Mike, Mike’s wife, Carol, (Don’s wife, Carolyn, passed away recently and is fondly remembered here as she was much loved by DD) .
