Obituary

Louis (Lou) Bo was born in McCloud, California on February 13, 1931 to Steve Bo and Marina Stanchi Bo, both immigrants from Provincia Alessandria, Italy.
Lou attended McCloud Elementary and then entered McCloud High School. After his sophomore year his family moved to San Jose, CA in 1946, as they went into a partnership with another family in operating a mom and pop grocery store so he finished his last two years graduating from San Jose High School. During this time he obtained a job working at the Mission Theater on First Street in San Jose.
After living in San Jose for two years his father sold the store to his partner in 1948 and bought a grocery store in Sunnyvale. Lou had just graduated from San Jose High and loved the idea of working in the store. When he was a young boy in McCloud he already liked to arrange the shelves in the cellar where the jars of different colored fruits such as pears, cherries, peaches and apricots that his mother canned were stored. Since Sunnyvale was growing and many homes were being built, the grocery business was booming and Lou’s father opened a bigger store called Bo’s Market. It was soon after the opening of this store that Lou met the love of his life Betty Rakowski and they were married on August 5, 1951. Almost a year later his first son Steven was born followed by David and Elizabeth (Betty).
After the sale of Bo’s Market in 1969, Lou went to work as a wine representative for Pellegrini Bros. Wines and later for Joseph George Distributors. When Lou retired he loved to play golf and attend the Farmers’ Market in downtown Sunnvale. You could always find him on Saturday mornings seated at a sidewalk table with all of his cronies. He loved seeing people he knew.
Lou leaves behind his beloved wife of 66 years Betty, son, Steven Bo, DDS, (Beth) of Half Moon Bay, daughter, Betty Smith of Sunnyvale. His son, David (Michele) predeceased him in 2004. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, David Bo, DDS (Alison), Stephanie (Shane) Valieri, Andrea Bo, Alysha Bo, Marina Bo, Stephen (Stevie) Bo, Daniel Smith, and Stephanie Fry. He also has one great grandson, Lucas Bo. Lou is also survived by his sister Rose Bo Marenco his brother-in-law , Carlo Marenco and his brother-in-law Cloyd Sargent , and wife Pat. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers you can donate to the charity of your choice in Lou’s name.
