Ed Chikasuye passed away peacefully with family at his side on December 8, 2018 of end stage renal failure. He was 88 years old.
Born to parents Ichiro and Mine Chikasuye on June 30, 1930 in Sunnyvale, Ed grew up in Palo Alto and Mountain View. During the war, he was interned at Heart Mountain, WY and graduated from Mountain View High School in 1948. During the Korean War, Ed served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 and was stationed in Japan. He was a Tool and Die Maker at Litton Industries in San Carlos, CA for 40 years, retiring in 1993. Ed married Dorothy Nakano in 1951, and they raised four children.
During his lifetime, Ed was involved in all his children’s activities and was an active member of the Mountain View Buddhist Temple. He was an avid fisherman, bowler and golfer, and always looked forward to gambling trips to Lake Tahoe, Reno and Las Vegas, especially the Reno bus trips with the Senior church group and San Jose Night. He loved to watch any kind of sports on T.V.
Predeceased by his parents and sister June Chikasuye, Ed is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy, brother John, children Eric (Patty), Jody (Walter), Jill and Mindy (Ken), grandchildren Perry and Alex, grand dogs Louie, Gussy and Momo, and numerous in-laws and nieces and nephews.
The family is forever grateful to 1 Plus 1 caregivers Jaime De Leon and Haregewaine “Winnie” Ayalew, and the staff at Satellite Dialysis in Mountain View, Cedar Crest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sunnyvale and Hospice of the Valley for their thoughtful care and kind treatment of Ed during his illness. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 19 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mountain View Buddhist Temple, 575 N. Shoreline Blvd., Mountain View. A reception will follow the service
