Obituary for Bienvenido 'Ben' Emata

Bienvenido V. Emata, Jr., 81, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2018 at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, California.

Ben, Dodo, as he was fondly called, was born in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental, Philippines. He completed a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and earned the distinction of being the only tri-mediaman in Mindanao, Philippines, during his time. He was the Editor/Publisher of Ang Bag-ong Katarungan and later, The Headliner, his own newspaper. He was a TV newscaster in Newscope and a radio commentator in DXOR and Bombo Radyo.

He wrote and published three books - Too High The Ladder, The Newsbreaker, and The Striker. He was also a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, both in the Philippines and in the USA.

He is survived by his wife, Minda Emata; sons, Othello (Benjie) Emata and wife Yasmin; Voltaire (Boyet) Emata; daughters, Liane Harris and husband, Steve; Emmy Metternich and husband, Werner; Stella Horsup and husband, David; eight grandchildren, Chris, Sharlaine, Claire, Melissa, Eric, Lea, Oliver and Arianna, and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral Mass is scheduled for 9:30 am Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church 2200 Mission College Blvd., Santa Clara.
A visitation and vigil is Monday, March 5, 2018 from 5-9pm at The Cusimano Colonial Funeral Home 96 W. El Camino Real, Mountain View.
